Personal Therapy with Tara Thomas

As a lifetime over-thinker and anxious little bunny, I’ve had my fair share of navigating the noise, chaos, and ethical dilemmas that come with being human. Surviving in a world like this requires compassionate space to unpack the big stuff—identity, relationships, climate anxiety, global upheaval, and the inner workings of your own brain. Add mental health challenges, a healthy dose of neurodiversity, or the weight of chronic illness and disability, and it’s no surprise if you’re feeling stuck, tangled, or just plain overwhelmed.

I love working with metaphor, and some of my favourite themes are ecology, permaculture, seasons, and gaming! Using metaphors helps you uncover your existing strengths and strategies—it doesn't matter what the metaphor is, because we'll use whichever world resonates most with you to highlight the strengths you already have. I'm especially juiced at the moment by Gloomhaven, but I'm happy to explore your favourite realms.

I fucking love working with reflective folk who are navigating the challenges that come with being deeply human.

What We’ll Do Together

Our work is about creating space to explore, make sense of your inner world, and build resourceful ways to move forward. Whether you’re questioning your choices, processing complex emotions, or stuck in loops of overthinking, I’m here to help.

Here’s what therapy with me looks like:

  • Listening, asking curious questions, and holding space for you to unpack what’s going on.
  • Being a sounding board for the complexities in your head and heart.
  • Helping you spot patterns that might be unhelpful or holding you back.
  • Offering strategies, tools, or ideas to navigate challenges in ways that work for your unique circumstances.
  • Validating your experience—because you’re not “crazy” for feeling what you feel.

Some Things We Might Explore

Life gets messy, and sometimes it’s hard to know where to start untangling it all. In our work together, we can delve into the complexities of relationships, identity, and the bigger questions that keep you up at night. Here’s a glimpse at some of the issues we might explore:

  • Did that just fucking happen?
Making sense of a specific event (or a series of actions or behaviours) that has left you questioning what happened and why.
  • Infidelity and attraction.
Navigating the complex feelings of being the one who had an affair, processing betrayal, or figuring out what to do when you’re sexually or romantically attracted to someone else.
  • Relationship crossroads.
Deciding whether to stay or go and exploring the possibilities in either direction.
  • Opening Relationships and Exploring Polyamory
For those considering consensual non-monogamy: support in deciding if it's the right path for you, navigating the transition, and addressing emotions and challenges as they arise during the process.
  • Navigating Open Relationships
For those already in open relationships: guidance to manage relationship dynamics, address common challenges, and strengthen connections within your chosen relationship(s).
  • Navigating Monogamous Relationships
For those already in monogamous relationships: guidance to manage relationship dynamics, address common challenges, and strengthen connections within your chosen relationship.
  • Grief, breakups, and estrangements.
Processing the end of a relationship, whether through the end of a romantic partnership, the drift or rupture of a friendship, family estrangement, or death. Together, we’ll explore ways to honour what was, find clarity in what is, and move forward with intention.
  • Redefining Neurodivergence: Your Brain, Your Rules.
Living with neurodivergence—whether it’s ADHD, AuDHD, Autism, sensory processing struggles, or learning differences like dyslexia or dyspraxia—often means facing advice made for neurotypical brains. "Just make a list!" or "try harder!" assumes the problem is you, not the broken systems around you.

I’m great at helping you figure out what’s really in your way (big, small, or weird) and finding what works for you. Maybe you’re already killing it in one area, and we can use that to tackle other challenges—or maybe you’ll decide you don’t give a fuck about that thing anyway. It’s about making life work for you, not the other way around.

  • Adult Friendships and Support Networks
For many, building meaningful connections isn’t about lacking the skills—it’s about struggling to find people who share the same intellectual curiosity, emotional depth, or desire for deeper conversations. When it feels like the people around you are only interested in surface-level stuff, it’s easy to withdraw, become more self-reliant, and lean into hermit life.

Together, we’ll explore how to navigate this challenge—processing the frustration or confusion of feeling out of sync with others, finding or creating connections that feel nourishing, and building support networks rooted in mutual aid, where depth, understanding, and shared values thrive.

  • Living Fully with Chronic Pain, Illness, or Disability
Chronic pain, illness, or disability isn’t just about navigating garbage healthcare systems, you’re also dealing with the ignorance of a world that doesn’t see or value this community, and the pressure to meet societal standards of productivity and contribution.

With my lived experience and special interest in this space, I bring a deep personal and professional commitment to exploring identity, legacy, and sexuality beyond symptoms or diagnoses. This includes celebrating vibrant sensuality, kink, and BDSM—all on crip time, where your pace and priorities come first.

  • Living in rhythms and seasons.
Finding flow in a world that demands constant productivity, and learning to honour the cycles of your time, energy, and attention.
  • Compassion fatigue and climate anxiety.
Finding ways to survive when the world feels too heavy to hold. Together, we’ll explore determined optimism— Holding the tension between rage and grace while balancing rest & boundaries with meaningful action. Learn how to protect your energy without losing your drive to make a difference.
  • Is it capitalism, or is it me?
Examining the pressure to always do, achieve, and succeed—and whether it’s even your burden to carry. Wrestling with questions like: Am I still valuable if I’m not earning money? Who am I without my job? What would it look like to have enough? When would I know that I am enough?

How Much Is It?

The cost of an individual session is;

  • $193.50 AUD for 90 minutes, or
  • $129 AUD for 60 minutes.

I like the 90-minute format because it gives us plenty of time to explore your thoughts fully, identify key themes together, and choose a focus. It also allows space for meaningful reflection, a little playful detouring, and the occasional tangent or rabbit hole.

The 60-minute alternative requires preparation on your part and a decision about the focus in advance to ensure we make the most of the shorter session.

For my US clients, the conversion rate is fluid but it's about $122.83 for 90 minutes and $54-ish for 60 minutes. It will be calculated the moment you make your payment.

For my European clients, the conversion rate is fluid but it's about $108.35 for 90 minutes and $48-ish for 60 minutes. It will be calculated the moment you make your payment.

KIND WORDS FROM CLIENTS

Working with Tara was an amazing experience. Her style of communication and no-nonsense approach to problem-solving really resonated with me.

During the sessions, I learnt a tremendous amount about myself, and how relationships actually work. The experience has helped me to develop a much better understanding of how to resolve conflicts and respond to the emotional needs of others. I highly recommend giving it a go!

Tara was able to provide us with some really usefully and tangible tools and info to work with.

The outcomes for us were that we were able to really highlight the things that are important to us and put into perspective the trivial things.

Tara has been a godsend!

I have been working with her for a little under six months, and her support and insight have helped me in my self development and healing. Her approach is evidence-based, compassionate, and adaptive to my shifting needs.

Through my work with her, I have gained knowledge and skills that have supported my self-awareness and integration. I am very satisfied with and grateful for her service, and would highly recommend her for anyone who wants support on their relational healing journey.

Tara has helped my husband and I develop more insights and strategies to relate to each other in a more positive, loving way. Our long term relationship has improved through practicing the skills and ways of speaking to one another.

On first meeting Tara, we felt welcomed and understood. Her flexible, empathetic, non-judgemental approach has made the repair of our relationship a positive and empowering experience. She provided so many resources to refer to, so the value of pairing with Tara for coaching remains long after the sessions ended.

In only three sessions I have learnt a lot about myself and where I am at right now. This has been enlightening. I have been trying every google search based result I could find to help me manage what goes on in my head, and none of it seemed to work. I figured I was the problem.

Your insight into me has provided some clarity and confidence that I just haven’t found what works for me yet. Maybe it’s the exercises you have already given, maybe it’s something else, I don’t know. But the compassion you have shown, mixed with a direct but strategic approach has already helped us start to work through the issues we have.

It highly likely I would have split with M. and been a mess at this time were it not for these sessions. I came very close to that.I have no idea what will pan out these next couple of months, or beyond, but so far I am confident that I will be better able to manage things in my head.

So my feedback is that you have been the right person, at the right time (maybe a little later than we should have) and we really appreciate your style and approach. Not to mention you as a person.

Absolutely love Tara!
Not only did she help us communicate as a couple in different ways, I learnt so much about myself.
I cannot recommend her enough.
Just do it! You will love her!
